The Yiddish newspaper in 'The Letter' was the inspiration for this image. It is a portion of a column that appeared in The Jewish Daily Forward called 'A Bintele Brief' (a bundle of letters) that were published in America following the first wave of immigration from Eastern Europe at the beginning of the 19th century. Recent immigrants to America opened their hearts in these letters to the editor, Abraham Cahan, expressing their feelings and problems of physical and emotional adjustment as strangers in a new land.
