This Commandment reminds us of the first murder of Adam and Eve's son Abel by his brother Cain over the nature of their separate offerings to G-d. Cain was not punished with death; he was condemned to wander the earth eternally bearing a distinctive mark to remember his crime and to warn others against such action.
